HIV/AIDS has emerged as a serious challenge having grave implications for the future economic and social development of Andhra Pradesh. In an effort to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, the Andhra Pradesh AIDS Consortium (APAIDSCON) has proposed the establishment of Red Ribbon Clubs (RRCs) in every medical college to provide youth with access to information on HIV/AIDS. Members of the RRCs are encouraged to engage in various activities to encourage their peers to adopt healthy life styles that prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. As medical students, they are also encouraged to learn the clinical procedures and grapple with the socioeconomic and cultural complexities surrounding the AIDS epidemic.
