For facilitating the PLHIV accessing HIV related services at the private medical colleges, APAIDSCON introduced a subsidized CD4 test at Rs. 200=00. The CD4 testing is done at a central lab in Hyderabad using a Facs Caliber machine and all the samples from various private medical colleges are transported in a cold chain packaged in a unique bag designed by APAIDSCON (in photograph) to maintain the temperature. The samples from the partnering Medical institutions across the various districts are transported by GATI - A Logistics transportation Company free of cost from the private medical colleges to central lab. GATI is doing this as a part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). The lead time from drawing sample to the sample being tested for CD4 is less than 48 hours and lead time from report being ready to being issued back to the patient is anywhere between 1 day (through e-mail) to 3 days (as hard copy). This is a unique Private - Private partnership. APSACS has reviewed this system in 2006 and based on APSACS advice, approval and directives, these CD4 reports are accepted at the ART centers across the State.
